I love midsized, 2-row SUVs. Now that I’ve driven the WK2 for 1.5 years and 60,000 miles I will never be without a midsized SUV again! I would happily own this bodystyle and class multiple times within the same garage.

Seriously, these things are the right size, act like a stealthier version of a muscle car and sports truck, easy to work on, easy to live with, crazy real world versatility, and can accommodate any life changes. These rigs are boss!

However, they aren’t my favorite bodystyle. Simply my new default bodystyle and a new found love!

I love midsized, 2-row SUVs.

Crossovers. Don’t hide your fetish. Call it like it is, crossover lover.

You’re one of them.

“... act like a stealthier version of a muscle car and sports truck...”

[citation needed]

The entire segment isn’t quick.

My wife has wk2. I have B8.5 A4.

I might get rid of the A4 and get another wk2. That’s how much I like driving it

I agree 100%

I like the CUVs too! If it’s RWD-based then I say it’s an SUV by modern standards. FWD-based then it’s a CUV. Just like you cant have a FWD sports sedan, it’s just a hot hatch with a trunk.

What’s the measure for quick?

Nope, SUV. But nothing wrong with a CUV either.

Well, maybe we should compare with muscle cars and sports trucks in order to determine what is meant by quick. An Ecoboost Mustang can apparently hit 60 in six seconds. Numbers on V6 Camaros put them in the low fives. V8 Mustangs and Camaros can also hit sixty in the low fours. I can’t seem to find solid numbers for a lot of vehicles in the two row midsize SUV range, but under seven seconds seems to be pretty plausible for a lot of the sport models.

The 2016 Equinox apparently hits sixty in 8.7 seconds. Outlander: from 7.6 to 9.2, depending on the trim and engine. The CR-V does it in 7.5, apparently.

Granted, I don’t know how accurate the numbers are, but comparing a few of the models from the two row midsize SUV segment to muscle cars, it seems like there’s a pretty large gulf in performance and speed. Yes, they all hit sixty in under ten seconds, and yes, there are a few stupid quick models, but I wouldn’t go comparing every one of them to a muscle car or a sport truck.

As well, this is only measuring acceleration in the comparison, not slalom speeds or track times.

i think crossover has more to do with how the chasis was developed: as a car or as an suv. im sure there are midsized 2 row crossovers. the c in cuv is for compact.

Yeah you got me there. Although it’s not a stealthy version of anything fast.

I’m thinking the RWD-based large 2-rows may be a better analog since muscle cars and trucks tend to be RWD. Maybe Grand Cherokee, X5, GLE, Cayenne, F-Pace, Levante, Bentayga and so on would be more compareable.

CUV stands for “Crossover Utility Vehicle” I think. I also believe that we are at a point where the components say more than the chassis now. Its like trying to define a sports car from a sports coupe from a pony car now. Expecting an SUV to be body-on-frame is like saying a luxury sedan must be body-on-frame. Times change and I think definitions have to evolve as technology does.

I and my 5-seater XC90 wholeheartedly agree with you hehe

BTW – the F-Pace is a compact SUV! (X3 fighter, not X5) But it’s awesome as well, definitely more fun to drive than the XE...

Most of the luxury 5 seat SUVs are quick, even if you don’t get the top performance models.

My X5 isn’t a crazy sports model and it hits 60 in under 6 seconds. Similar story for RR Sport V6 and the GLE400 or 450 or whatever it’s called now.

The only SUVs that are quick are the premium ones, and even with those only the high end model. Think a X4, Macan, or F-Pace. SUVs are inherently more expensive than cars, so it makes sense you’d need to spend 20k-30k more to get a SUV with similar performance.
